Galia Backal (she/her/ella)
Beyond Shakespeare & Acting the Monologue

Galia is a first generation Mexican-American director, choreographer, and collaborator. She is drawn to work that supports themes of diversity, inclusion, and intersectionality, specifically pieces that center women and Latinx stories.

Galia received her BA in Directing from Pace University and is currently the Resident Director of the North American Tours of SIX the Musical and SIX the Musical Canada. She has worked with New Georges as one of the 2022 Audrey Residents, The Civilians as a part of the 2020 – 2021 R&D Group, and was a part of the 2020 – 2022 Roundabout Directors Group Cohort. Galia has also collaborated with The Drama League, Samuel French, Atlantic Theater Company, The Broadway League, Theatre for a New Audience, The Sol Project, The Tank, LaGuardia Performing Arts Center, and TADA Theatre.
